Welcome to Halcyon!

Through accounts of local residents, it is estimated that this property was originally constructed during the mid-1850's. The frame of the house is constructed of Fir believed to have been milled from area woods. A renovation during the 1960's added a pediment to the front of the home that gave it the appearance of a Greek Revival type home. After completing some demolition work and examining the original frame of the home and based upon its construction during the 1850's, it is believed the original architectural style of the home was closer to that of the Federal and Adam home styles rather than the Greek Revival home style. Therefore, the goal of this renovation project is to return the home to its original Federal and Adam home style using modern green construction materials and practices to make the home energy efficient and a country retreat for the home owners.

This is an almost original shot of the house. The only change shown is the removal of the beauty parlor/mud room addition.

This is a view of the house after we replaced the roof and windows on the second floor. While replacing the windows, we also stripped off the original siding and added some TyVek wrap.

This is a mockup of the front of the house following renovations.

After renovation, the property at 3286 Stone Road will feature hardwood and tile floors, solid wood doors, oil rubbed bronze hardware, Pella Windows, Thermatru and Pella exterior doors, spray foam insulation and a geothermal heating/cooling system.

Where'd you get Halcyon From?

According to Merrian-Webster, halcyon means: calm, peaceful, happy, golden, properous, affluent. Following the purchase of the acreage, I decided that it should have a name. After thinking about it for a while, I decided I wanted something that represented the calm and peaceful atmosphere of the property when it is surrounded by woods and corn fields. During a reverse dictionary search, I happened upon the word 'halcyon' and decided it sounded pretty cool... Tyler hates the name, but I'm the one making the website.
